I. Study Abroad Frequently Asked Questions:

1. Do I need to bring my own books?

2. I am not sure about my level, is there a placement test?

3. I have already finished Arabic 003, but I have not practiced my Arabic for a long time, are there any reviewing sessions offered?

4. I am interested in the study abroad, but I am not sure I can be there for the whole time, is there any flexibility?

5. I have special needs, would that be a problem of some sort?

1. Do I need to be a computer savvy to take such classes?

2. Does it matter if I am using a Macintosh?

3. Is there any technological aspect I should be aware of before I register?

4. Is the material covered in these classes similar to the material covered at a similar level at an American University?

I. Study Abroad Answers:

1. Yes, the Al-Kitaab book is not readily available in bookstores here in Tunisia and you would have to order it online. For that reason, it is important that you bring the Al-Kitaab book with you to avoid delays.

2. Yes, as part of the registration process you will take a placement test online. This test involves speaking and written components. Scheduling and content details about this test will be arranged during the registration process.

3. Depending on the result of your placement test, you may find it helpful to work with our faculty once you arrive to get a boost during our optional afternoon tutoring sessions. Another option would be to register for either our semester-based online classes or our GetFluent Sessions. It is important that you contact our faculty during the registration to ask for specific questions.

4. The intensive nature of our online classes in Tunisia makes it important to be there from the beginning of classes, however, you can let our faculty know and they can work with you to make up what you have missed either during our optional afternoon sessions or through the GetFluent Sessions.

5. Please let our staff know of any specific needs you would require and our staff would be happy to work with you to accomodate you in the best way possible.

6. While Automatic Teller Machines (ATMs) are readily available in Tunisia, it is important to keep in mind that the most widely accepted cards must have the Visa or Mastercard logo. American Express cards are not widely accepted and you may find it hard to access your money if you solely rely on your card.

7. The Fluent in Arabic Academy premises are located within 15 miles from the beach.

8. While there may be an equivalent for your medicine in Tunisia, this is most likely going to a different brand available in a different dose or form. We encourage you to bring enough of your prescription medicine to last over your stay and to avoid having to go to the Doctor to prescribe it again.

II. GetFluent Sessions Answers:

1. No, The Fluent in Arabic Academy uses a very easy to use platform that does not require you to be a computer savvy. As a matter of fact, after a couple of sessions online you will feel right at home with our top notch technology.

2. No, the platform used by The Fluent in Arabic Academy works seamlessly with Widnows and Macintosh machines.

3. There is not a good answer to this question, as it depends on your rhythm really. However, our faculty advise you to leave enough time between your sessions to be able to review and may be go over some concept you might have encountered.

4. Yes, the GetFluent Sessions are really designed to allow you to get to the fluency level in Arabic. This means that you will find all the support you wish to reach that goal in dialect as well as in Modern Standard Arabic (MSA).

5. Well, our faculty’s native dialect is the Tunisian dialect, however, we have several course material that would provide you with other dialect key concepts.

6. Sure, you just need to communicate your needs during your registration process. Our faculty will try to accomodate you needs. However, this will only happen if you register for our 8 sessions package.

III. Online Classes Answers:

1. No, The Fluent in Arabic Academy uses a very easy to use platform that does not require you to be a computer savvy. As a matter of fact, after a couple of sessions online you will feel right at home with our top notch technology.

2. No, the platform used by The Fluent in Arabic Academy works seamlessly with Widnows and Macintosh machines.

3. Yes, the Al-Kitaab book has a DVD component included, which you have to be able to view at home. This means that if your computer plays DVD (most of them do) then you won’t need anything else. You can also play these videos on a DVD player. Our faculty will be assigning listening exercises from the DVD.

4. This depends on universities, but most probably yes. Our faculty has an extensive experience teaching in American universities and they are aware of the overall level distribution, especially for universities using Al-Kitaab.

5. Only upon request. If after you review the syllabus you are still not sure about your level, you can ask for a placement test to have our faculty assess your current level and advise you.

6. Yes, please let us know about this conflict before you register and we will see if we can provide extra sessions or even ask other students if they have time preferences. Most of time, more than one student would like to have a change of time and in that case we would procede to the change.

7. This really depends on your level and the level you are studying. Ideally, for each hour of class time we would need one to two hours of work.
